Topic - Tackles From Behind

Welcome to the FineSoccer Kids Newsletter.

Today's topic deals with tackles from behind.

One of the things we see frequently when watching professional soccer is a player makes a tackle from behind, they take out
the player
and then get the ball and when they are called for the foul they argue "but I got the ball!".

(AYSO Learning moment - - do not argue with the referee.)

The reality is, if you take the player out first, it's not going to matter whether you then got the ball or not.

Think of it as being similar to committing a foul just outside the 18. You commit the foul outside the 18 but the player
then rolls into the 18.
Should that be a penalty kick?

No because it's not where the player ends up, it's what happened first.

The same thing applies to a tackle from behind. It doesn't matter what happened after the foul occurred
(unless the ref is going with advantage).

It is possible to do a tackle from behind within the laws of the game (get all ball for example) but remember,
as a general rule, any tackle from
behind means you are already beat.

Before considering taking the chance, see if you can in front of the player, or at the very least,
beside the player.

Or, see if someone else can provide the coverage you need so you don't have to risk the unnecessary foul.

(AYSO Learning moment - - most referees working with youth soccer will call a tackle from behind.)
